HAND IN HAND @ First Chinese Baptist Church Date: Sunday, December 19, 2021 Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm Address: 21 Pell Street Hand in Hand is a poetic piece by puppetry artist Spica Wobbe which conveys how her mother passed down her life stories to her family through her paintings. Her mother, Ms. Shia Zhaozhi (1929~ 2014), used her paintings to document the stories of growing up in Taipei, Taiwan and how the society changed since the 30’s. The performance includes shadow manipulation, Crankie Theatre, storytelling, and music. Passing down family stories is a very important legacy for the next generation and one of the best ways to document history. Spica Wobbe established The Memory Project with Karen Oughtred to help older adults to tell their life stories through visual arts, theater and puppetry since 2016. There will be a talk back about storytelling through Shadow Theater after the show n |

SHOW #1
A Chance Shadow. PART II
Part two of A Chance Shadow is based on the poetry, plays and life of Federico Garcia Locra (1898~ 1936).
The creators Spica Wobbe and Margot Fitzsimmons believe that whenever Lorca put pen to paper, he always had duende in mind. Duende in Spanish means having soul, a heightened state of emotion, expression and authenticity that can often make you smile or cry as a bodily reaction to a particular artistic expression. In his work, he brings to light dramatic themes of love, Spanish culture, feminism, freedom and death.

The City
@ Theater Lab June 26~ 29
Created by Jamie Roach & Catherine Hanna
The City is an immersive performance experience following two New Yonkers through a day that will change the course of their lives. The performance features realistic and abstract scenes as well as interactive audience engagement to explore how New Yonkers connect and disconnect in the city. Enhanced by film, dance, original music, poetry, beat-box, photography and shadow/ light design, ,the audience will explore the ways humans impact each other or fail to do so.... We are very fortunate to have the chance to collaborate with them to design an installation for the show. It was an inspiring experience and we hope you can experience it too. "A Chance Shadow" is a non-verbal poetic puppetry piece inspired by the Chinese poet Xu Zhimo (1897-1931) and the Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936). Xu was one of the first Chinese writers to successfully naturalize Western romantic forms into modern Chinese poetry and Lorca was a social activist who changed the world around him though his unique style of surrealism and theatricality. They both existed during the same period on opposite sides of the world. With their passion for literature, social reform and true love, they changed society.
