★ Review of the 2012 Close to You Puppet Festival ★
Among all the shows in the Close to You Puppet Festival, Derrick's "WHITE", Spica & Margot's "A Chance Shadow. part II: Federico Garcia Lorca " and Ren Zhong's "Dionysus Hangover" are my favorites ..... "A Chance Shadow. part II: Federico Garcia Lorca " is obvious about the Spanish poet and playwright Lorca. They used many shadow / light techniques, exquisite mini puppets and props to provide a quick view of the background of the Lorca's times as well as his dramatic life story. It certainly evoked the audience to know more about Lorca. In Taiwan, not many people know about Lorca unless you have some Spanish background. People know him as the author of "Blood Wedding" at most. I did a research about Lorca right after the show in order to pick up the missing piece of the European theater history. ★★ Puppet Master ★★ Volume 17 No.3May 2012 ~ reviewed by Carol Sterling "...By inviting the audience into this intimate piece with its evocative imagery, A Chance Shadow, helps us gain a deeper appreciation of the literature of Lorca. At once, we are swept into imaginative interpretations and images that brought to life Lorca’s search for the duende ........" |
